Learn more about how to apply for JJWBGSP scholarship for Developing Country Nationals and for Japan Nationals.</strong></p> <p>The World Bank Scholarships Program contributes to the World Bank Group’s mission of forging new dynamic approaches to capacity development and knowledge sharing in the developing world.</p> <p>It is an important component of the Bank Group’s efforts to promote economic development and shared prosperity through investing in education and developing human resources in the developing world. </p> <p>Since 1982, the Program has helped to form a pool of over 6,000 well-trained and experienced development professionals, transforming their countries and positively impacting future generations.</p> <p>Currently, the World Bank Scholarships Program offers two sources of funding for graduate studies in development-related fields for mid-career professionals and researchers:</p> <p>Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJWBGSP) Since 1987, JJWBGSP has enabled more than 6,000 mid-career professionals from developing countries and Japan to complete graduate degrees in development-related fields. On an annual basis, the Government of Japan solely funds the JJWBGSP.</p> <h3><strong>Eligibility</strong></h3> <p>Details on Eligibility Criteria for each call for applications are provided in that call’s Application Guidelines, and these detailed eligibility criteria are strictly adhered to. No exceptions are made.</p> <p>Broadly speaking, Developing Country nationals must:</p> <ul><li>Be a national of a <a href="http://pubdocs.worldbank.org/en/638031509373581598/eligible-to-borrow-country-list.pdf" target="_blank">World Bank member developing country</a>;</li><li>Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country;</li><li>Be in good health;</li><li>Hold a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline date;</li><li>Have 3 years or more of recent development-related work experience after earning a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree;</li><li>Be employed in development-related work in a paid full- time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application.  The only exception to this criterion is for developing country nationals from a country that will be on the updated list of Fragile and Conflict States provided to applicants in the Application Guidelines for each call for scholarships.</li><li>On or before the Scholarship Application Deadline date, be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) for the upcoming academic year to at least one of the JJ/WBGSP <a href="http://pubdocs.worldbank.org/en/374821478177457089/JJ-WBGSP-Preferred-Programs.xlsx" target="_blank">preferred university master’s programs</a> located outside of the applicant’s country of citizenship and country of residence listed at the time the call for scholarship applications opens. The letter of admission must be uploaded before submitting your application. <div></div><img alt="" src="http://univerwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Call-for-Applications-for-the-8th-International-Postgrad-Summer-School-in-Lesbos-Greece.png" /> <p><strong>Deadline:</strong> 15 April 2019<br /><strong>Open to:</strong> participants from around the world<br /><strong>Venue</strong>: 2 –  11 July 2019 in Lesbos, Greece</p> <h3><strong>Description</strong></h3> <p><strong>For the eighth year the Department of Social Anthropology and History of the University of the Aegean and the Institute of Migration and Ethnic Studies of the Universityof Amsterdam welcome applications for the Postgraduate International Summer School ‘CULTURES, MIGRATIONS, BORDERS’ that will take place on the border island of LESVOS, GREECE, from 2 to 11 JULY 2019.</strong></p> <p>The broader socioeconomic and political transformations in Africa and Asia have recently resulted in increased migration flows to Greece and, more generally, to Europe. Being at the crossroads of populations and cultures the islands of Eastern Aegean have served as one of the entry “gates” to Europe. In this context, and especially in connection to the current crisis, border crossings have become the focus of intense debates as they are intertwined with issues of culture and identity formation, the European Union and state policy, and constructions of ‘otherness’. By drawing on an increasing interest in the study of cultures, migrations and borders, our Summer School examines how migrations shape and are shaped by processes of boundary formation in a variety of cultural encounters.</p> <p>The North Eastern Aegean island of LESVOS provides an ideal location for holding this Summer School, as it is currently one of the more important gates of immigrants and refugees to Greece and Europe and the site of a massive humanitarian intervention. The Summer School takes place as the ‘European Refugee Crisis’ goes on taking new forms and in times of radical transformations and the reconfiguration of borders in national and international levels. The program aims to address political, ethical and theoretical questions in this challenging landscape. </p> <p>The program of the course is structured around five thematic axes:</p> <ul><li> Theoretical and methodological issues in the study of migration and borders.</li><li> Institutional and political aspects of the migratory condition.</li><li> People on the move: immigrant groups, refugees and host communities.</li><li> Cross-cultural encounters across borders and interactions of host/immigrant on the border.</li><li> The politics of humanitarian aid and the ‘refugee crisis’.</li></ul> <p>Along with the seminars, the program includes some further activities. The participants will be given the opportunity to interact with citizens on the island assisting refugees and meet asylum seekers. A fieldtrip to Mytilene is organized for this purpose as well as some activities in Plomari. While acquainting themselves with the reality of migration on an Aegean island, participants will develop research skills and learn how to place their findings within wider local and global processes. Doctoral students and researchers will also have the opportunity to present their work at the PhD/Reseach Seminars. The Summer School includes the public screening of films on migration and border-crossing as well as it offers a variety of social and leisure activities.</p> <p>A certificate of attendance will be awarded to all participants.</p> <h3><strong>Eligibility</strong></h3> <p>Postgraduate students with a background in the social sciences, PhD candidates and researchers, undergraduates at their final year of studies and professionals working at NGOs or other institutions are all eligible to apply. This is why the University of Trento is proud to host an International Summer School on Global Challenges, right in the heart of Europe. The academic part of the Summer School will tackle issues such as: migration, terrorism, international trade, populism, Brexit, the changing balance of power and climate change.<br />Debate will be encouraged by addressing specific case studies on the issues presented in class.Participants will be introduced to the business excellences of Trentino. Therefore, the Robert Bosch Stiftung and its partners see the need for:</p> <ul><li>more and better integration of the natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities in sustainability research,</li><li>a better recognition of inter- and transdisciplinary research in academia and,</li><li>excellent, highly competitive researchers who are able to lead inter- and transdisciplinary teams and academic institutions.</li></ul> <p>Thus, it is important to prepare early-career researchers for leadership positions in inter- and transdisciplinary contexts.</p> <p>The Postdoc Academy for Transformational Leadership provides an intensive high-end training with four seminars in two years that broaden inter- and transdisciplinary research competencies of early career sustainability researchers and to promote their qualifications towards transdisciplinary leadership. The program also offers seed funding (e.g. for stakeholder meetings or proposal writing activities) to small groups of participants, who plan to initiate research collaborations. Further information on the Institute’s activity is available on the website (<a href="http://isig.fbk.eu/">http://isig.fbk.eu</a>).</p> <p>As part of the research project “Mediatisation and mediality of history” , the focus of the Institute since 2017 (<a href="https://isig.fbk.eu/it/projects/categories/mediatizzazione-e-medialita-dellastoria/">https://isig.fbk.eu/it/projects/categories/mediatizzazione-e-medialita-dellastoria</a>), the Summer School will investigate through lectures and seminars the role of media in the context of the socio-political and cultural transformations that have typified the early modern and contemporary era. The aim is to reconstruct the development of the media through the categories of mediality, intermediality and transnationality from an historical perspective.</p> <p>Presentations may be in Italian, German or English. In preparation for the Summer school, selected applicants will receive a reading list provided by the lecturers. The University contributes 40% of the funds for these scholarships, together with 60% from generous donations provided by supporters of the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust, including Fondation Hoffmann. Fondation Hoffmann is a Swiss-based grant making institution supporting the emergence and expansion of concrete projects which address global problems in today’s societies.</p><h3><span>Eligibility</span></h3><p>You should be intending to return to your country of ordinary residence once your course is completed. Students currently at Oxford are not eligible to apply unless they are already Weidenfeld-Hoffmann scholars.</p><p>You should be able to demonstrate a connection between your subject of study and your longer-term career objectives, explaining how you see your professional work contributing to the improvement of public life in your country of origin or at a wider regional or international level.</p><p>The above qualities will be assessed during the selection process, including using your graduate application form, your Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships Questionnaire and (if relevant) your interview.</p><p>This scholarship is not open to applications from candidates who hold <a href="http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/applying-to-oxford/after-you-apply/your-offer-and-contract?wssl=1">deferred offers</a> to start in 2019-20.</p><h3><span>Scholarships</span></h3><p>The scholarship will cover 100% of course fees and a grant for living costs (of at least £14,777). Reforms are needed to completely change the social order and institutions. It is known that as the people get older, they become more conservative. These semester –long, inquiry-based courses, aiming at enhancing research potential of the country are intended for graduate and postgraduate students, independent researchers, young faculty members from various higher education institutions and think-tank organizations, particularly in the field of<span> </span><strong>social sciences and humanities<span> </span></strong>across a wide spectrum of disciplines (political science, sociology, philosophy, history, education, law, economics, gender studies, public policy, anthropology etc.)</p><p> </p><p><strong><u>Project Background</u></strong></p><p>Funded by the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, the overall objective of the above-mentioned project is to contribute to the country’s agenda on reforming academic inquiry field, by developing local scientific community and increasing the visibility of researchers in Azerbaijan.</p><p>The project will introduce a wide range of semester-long research -oriented courses and short-term training programs on<span> </span><strong><em>“ Social Research Methods”</em></strong><span> </span>and<span> </span><strong><em>“Academic Writing”</em></strong><span> </span>necessary to support and encourage project beneficiaries to produce high-impact academic papers in the field of social sciences to be publicized at international, regional and national workshops and conferences, as well as policy papers to provide decision-makers with an overview of an issue or problem, targeted analysis, and actionable recommendations.</p><p>Additionally, the project will endeavor to link the high-performing course participants with their peers from American Universities to jointly work on research study and/ or policy-related paper to further publish it or present at the conferences. Moreover, depending on a field of study, ADA University professorship from social sciences sector will continue to mentor selected project participants as emerging researchers in supporting their further academic pursuits.</p><p>The project will allocate a small research grant to encourage participants to fulfill their research studies.</p><p><u><strong>Course Description</strong></u></p><p>ADA University will offer semester-long courses on<span> </span><em>Social Research Methods</em><span> </span>with the focus on qualitative and quantitative/statistical analysis (40 hours) and<span> </span><em>Academic Writing</em><span> </span>(40 hours). The courses will be delivered<span> </span><strong>in English</strong>. The duration of each course is 4 months.  Leading professors of ADA University will deliver these courses.
