The Civil Society and Gender Unit within Democratization Department focus on the supporting stronger civil society engagement in democratic processes in Albania as well as gender equality and women’s active participation in public and political life.</p>   <p>The key priority areas of Civil Society and Gender Unit are:</p>   <ul><li>Enhancing the role and engagement of citizens in democratic processes in Albania by supporting informed, active and inclusive civil society;</li><li>Promote cooperation and assist developing participative, transparent and inclusive mechanisms between civil society and institutions;</li><li>Working on direct youth empowerment and activists outside of the power center of the capital; youth mainstreaming and support to the youth regional co-operation through RYCO and regional co-operation;</li><li>Enhance civil society capacities to address pressing issues of society including support to the voices of minorities, people with special needs and other disadvantaged groups;</li><li>Gender Empowerment and Women’s engagement in public and political life at central and local level.</li></ul>   <p>Tasks and Responsibilities</p>   <p>The intern will be an integral part of the Democratization Department and will work under the direct guidance of the Senior Democratization Officer (SDO) specifically to support the civil society youth portfolio. More precisely, as part of the team, the intern will:</p>   <ul><li>Conduct a primary research and draft a report on youth mainstreaming in the work of organizations and the best practices;</li><li>Research youth, civic engagement and gender situation in Albania – data collection;</li><li>Provide logistical support in the organization of the CSGU events such as preparing the draft invitation to events, collect confirmations, taking notes, provide first draft of social media presentation of activities etc. Propose establishing and/or strengthening the communication channels with the beneficiaries, with a special focus on activities that are targeting youth or are youth mainstreamed (fb and Instagram posts, emailing lists, etc.);</li><li>Maintain regular communication and coordinate the engagement of Youth Advisory Group (YAG) members with Presence staff;</li><li>Other duties supporting the unit, as assigned.</li></ul>   <h1><strong>Eligibility</strong></h1>   <ul><li>The upper age limit for applicants is 30 years;</li><li>A university degree in a public administration, communication science and technologies, political science and/or international relations;</li><li>Experience volunteering and/or working with youth organizations;</li><li>Excellent written and oral skills in English;</li><li>Research and knowledge of project management  will be an asset;</li><li>Interpersonal skills and gender awareness.</li></ul>   <h1>Award</h1>   <p>This Internship is not remunerated. Necessary travel expenses to the mission at the commencement and from the Mission home at the end of the Internship will not be reimbursed. In lieu of remuneration, the Mission shall contribute towards the cost of living of international interns who are non-residents at the duty station. Being at the crossroads of populations and cultures the islands of Eastern Aegean have served as one of the entry “gates” to Europe. In this context, and especially in connection to the current crisis, border crossings have become the focus of intense debates as they are intertwined with issues of culture and identity formation, the European Union and state policy, and constructions of ‘otherness’. By drawing on an increasing interest in the study of cultures, migrations and borders, our Summer School examines how migrations shape and are shaped by processes of boundary formation in a variety of cultural encounters.</p>   <p>The North Eastern Aegean island of LESVOS provides an ideal location for holding this Summer School, as it is currently one of the more important gates of immigrants and refugees to Greece and Europe and the site of a massive humanitarian intervention. The Summer School takes place as the ‘European Refugee Crisis’ goes on taking new forms and in times of radical transformations and the reconfiguration of borders in national and international levels. The program aims to address political, ethical and theoretical questions in this challenging landscape. </p>   <p>The program of the course is structured around five thematic axes:</p>   <ul><li> Theoretical and methodological issues in the study of migration and borders.</li><li> Institutional and political aspects of the migratory condition.</li><li> People on the move: immigrant groups, refugees and host communities.</li><li> Cross-cultural encounters across borders and interactions of host/immigrant on the border.</li><li> The politics of humanitarian aid and the ‘refugee crisis’.</li></ul>   <p>Along with the seminars, the program includes some further activities. The participants will be given the opportunity to interact with citizens on the island assisting refugees and meet asylum seekers. A fieldtrip to Mytilene is organized for this purpose as well as some activities in Plomari. While acquainting themselves with the reality of migration on an Aegean island, participants will develop research skills and learn how to place their findings within wider local and global processes. Doctoral students and researchers will also have the opportunity to present their work at the PhD/Reseach Seminars. The Summer School includes the public screening of films on migration and border-crossing as well as it offers a variety of social and leisure activities.</p>   <p>A certificate of attendance will be awarded to all participants.</p>   <h3><strong>Eligibility</strong></h3>   <p>Postgraduate students with a background in the social sciences, PhD candidates and researchers, undergraduates at their final year of studies and professionals working at NGOs or other institutions are all eligible to apply. Seminars will look into the regulation of “spaces” (e.g. governance of the high seas), the regulation of “resources” and their use (e.g. the regulation of foreign investments), and the governance of “people” (e.g. in the context of refugee movements). The ongoing significance of the concept of territory will be discussed not only from a theoretical perspective, but also with a view to its practical implications in different areas of international law. Classes will also explore areas in which the territorial focus of international law is increasingly replaced by alternative (e.g. “transnational”) modes of governance.</p>   <h3>Eligibility</h3>   <p>The number of participants is limited to 30.</p>   <p>Prerequisites for participation are a minimum of one year of university study in law or political sciences, basic knowledge of Public International Law and a very good command of written and spoken English. CAS Sofia is an independent Institute with international and multidisciplinary profile. Located in Sofia, Bulgaria, it promotes high-level scholarship in the social sciences and the humanities. In addition to supporting focus-group research, CAS Sofia invites outstanding scholars to pursue their individual research projects during in-residence periods of up to five months. The invited Fellows participate in the intellectual life and the scholarly community of the Centre (Bulgarian and foreign fellows) while working on projects of their own choice. Fellows receive adequate material and intellectual support and can profit from the Centre’s wide international networks, international seminar- and guest-lecturer programme. CAS Sofia assists Fellows in all practical matters concerning travel, residence and research in Sofia.</p>   <p>Candidates may apply for two periods: </p>   <ul><li>1 October 2019 – 28 February 2020 (Winter semester)</li><li>1 March 2020 – 31 July 2020 (Summer semester)</li></ul>   <p>N.B. The final invitation for fellowship depends on the ranking of the application and the preferred period. Availability for both periods is an advantage for the applicant. Participants engage in a structured comparative scenario analysis and research generation exercise facilitated by Bridging the Gap fellows. Through this innovative format, participants assess the medium-term challenges and opportunities currently facing the world, critically examine the macro-level goals that underpin American foreign policy, and problematize the strategies and policies meant to achieve these goals. On the basis of these discussions, participants are led through a process to help generate and shape policy-relevant research ideas. In the past, these ideas have contributed to participants’ dissertation projects and have also resulted in conference papers, published academic articles, and pieces in policy journals.</p><p>NEW also includes a professional development and networking component, with sessions built around the involvement of foreign policy experts. This program enables women from developing countries to strengthen their leadership capacities in order to contribute to innovation and change in their organizations and communities. Program participants engage in learning grounded in real world experiences and focused on Coady’s core thematic areas. Through a shared learning environment with other emerging women leaders from around the world, participants are exposed to a range of experiences and the beginnings of a potentially lifelong network of support.</p><p>The Global Change Leaders program provides successful candidates with a scholarship that includes tuition, travel, accommodations, and meals. Successful participants are responsible for costs pertaining to acquiring a visa to enter Canada.</p><p>Program participants benefit from the guidance and mentorship of accomplished women leaders from around the world. The program is led by a core team of staff in the International Centre for Women’s Leadership and supported by other Coady faculty and associates.</p><h3><span>Eligibility</span></h3><p>This program is targeted to emerging women leaders from developing countries who are working on development issues. These are women who:</p><ul><li>Possess a minimum of five years of demonstrated leadership experience in a social or economic development endeavor in sectors such as livelihoods or inclusive economic development, food security, environment, access to education and health care, governance, political engagement of women and the rights of girls and women;</li><li>Will be immediately returning to their community and sector following the program to put their learning into practice;</li><li>Have great drive and passion for their work, demonstrated through their outstanding contributions in their organizations and communities;·</li><li>Are practitioners in civil society organizations including community based organizations and not for profits, or active in public or private institutions, donor/philanthropic agencies, social movements or in a social enterprise/business;</li><li>Hold a university degree or a combination of post-secondary education and experience; and</li><li>Have strong oral and written English language competencies.</li></ul><p>Candidates must be from a country eligible for Official Development Assistance.</p><h3><span>Costs</span></h3><p>The cost of Coady programs varies due to length of course and location. Ideas that will transform today’s challenges into tomorrow’s opportunities. We believe that, as the agricultural leaders of tomorrow, young people should be at the forefront of these efforts.</p><p>The Youth Ag Summit is a global forum where young leaders can collaborate to develop sustainable solutions for food security and global agriculture, and work towards becoming global instruments of change. If i had to describe myself in three words, they would be passionate about learning, hard working and ambitious.</span><br /><span>  Training of elites at the most prestigious schools of the world together with the democratization and economic reforms in a state may lead to the creation of the basis for a viable state. Current realities require improvement of the methods, instruments, and strategies available for my country. They are necessary for facing challenges and risks and for establishing clear and precise lines of action in the following spheres: political-administrative, social, educational, research, culture, national security and public order in the foreign policy. In this situation, people need a support and this can only come from leaders of society, particularly political leaders. They need to exhale the force that protects the vulnerable people and enables people with initiative to press the accelerator for maximizing profits. Reforms are needed to completely change the social order and institutions. It is known that as the people get older, they become more conservative. Yet, how should we conceive the current state of security politics in Europe?</p><p>In the absense of the existential military threat of the Cold War, the attention of security politics shifted towards a range of ‘new’ threats – man-made and natural, partly related to our reliance on advanced technology (as in Ulrich Beck’s notion of ‘risk society’). Pandemics, industry accidents, pollution, flooding, global warming and terrorism were among the dangers included in this broadened notion of national/civil/internal/homeland security.</p><p>While introduced with a more narrow focus on social identities, the concept of ‘societal security’ was picked up by politicians, bureaucrats, security industry and academics to describe how this development involved a shift from the traditional referent object of security – the sovereignty of the nation-state – to the security of society at large. Beyond material aspects of life such as physical protection, shelter, subsistence and critical infrastructure, societal security includes complex social aspects such as values, ideas, confidence, trust and belonging. In contrast to the individual centric notion of ‘human security’, it nonetheless concentrates on that which is of shared public concern – complementing private and corporate security.</p><p>This course invites a reassessment of security politics in Europe through a critical engagement with the notion of societal security. Sessions investigate key aspects including threat perceptions, security actors, institutional dynamics, relations between financial and societal security, new security technology and the ethics of security. The programme is aimed at journalists who have suffered bullying and severe threats, psychological harassment and/or physical abuse, threats to their wellbeing and/or attempts on their life. To the ECPMF it makes no difference whether the respective perpetrators are governments, authorities, organised crime, private individuals, commercial entities, political or religious groups or any other aggressor. In the current cycle you can apply for a residency for a minimum of three months or a maximum of six months during the period from November 2018 to the end of June 2019.</p><h3><span>Eligibility</span></h3><p>In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:</p><ul><li>are a citizen of Turkey and currently based in Turkey</li><li>provide documentary proof you are at risk due to your reporting</li><li>are working/have worked as a professional journalist</li><li>are proficient in English, French or German (level B2)</li><li>are not affiliated to any extremist movement and/or party</li><li>intend to return to Turkey once your stay has come to a close</li></ul><h3><span>Costs</span></h3><p>The ECPMF will cover your visa fees and your travel costs to and from Germany. We also arrange health insurance and provide you with a monthly allowance of 1,000 euros. If you would like to take part in a training course on a subject relevant for your work, or if you would like to see a psychotherapist, the ECPMF will cover these costs as well. Please be aware, though, that we are unable to fund any additional expenses, such as language courses or printed materials. While we can help you to arrange all of the above, they would have to be covered with your own funds. The ECPMF will provide you with a furnished and equipped apartment in a safe location in Leipzig, Germany.</p><h3><span>Application</span></h3><p>The ECPMF’s staff assesses all applications, documents and references equally and fairly. Drawing input from partners, we will thoroughly fact-check and verify your identity and the nature of the threat/s you describe in your application. Once fact-checking is completed, the ECPMF executive board makes a final selection from shortlisted candidates. The initiative is organized with the founding of the Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia.</p><p>The competition is dedicated to Franco Jesurun, a visionary man of culture, that was a theatre actor and a gallerist, founder of the three cultural organizations in Trieste that promote the competition. Studio Tommaseo established this biennial competition in 2014, as part of the activities celebrating the Studio’s 40th anniversary.</p><p>The contest is international and addressed to the European area. It is specifically directed at the new generations of artists in order to encourage future professionals to create original projects, which are characterized by the dynamic interaction between the contemporary creativity of Theatre, the languages of the Visual Arts and the new media Information Technologies. The initiative is aimed also at developing moments of exchange and sharing between young artists and experts operating in the three fields of competence. For this purpose a series of workshops will be held.<br />In pursuing its objectives, the initiative will also be closely examining the works which originate from the projects of students who are active in educational and training initiatives of institutions which are based in Europe.<br />Special attention will be given to projects submitted by groups formed by members from different areas of training and interest.</p><p>The contestants are asked to conceive an original and unpublished theatrical action, low budget and small format, organically connected to the languages and issues of contemporary visual arts. The candidate action has to maintain as its founding elements the stage environment and performing talent, include dramaturgy and give specific attention to the artistic potential of recent information technologies.<br />In keeping with the logic of the contest, the applying theatrical action must be able to fit in an ideal 4mx4mx4m size box and should last no longer than 16 minutes.</p><p>In accordance with the aim of the contest, no monetary prizes will be given.</p><p>SEMI-FINALISTS AND THE ONLINE SQUEEZE IT AWARD<br />The semi-finalist video clips will be PUBLISHED ON THE WEBSITE www.triestecontemporanea.it. The one of them, ranked first in an on-line public vote, will be awarded the Online Squeeze It Award 2018. The winner will be invited to participate in the WORKSHOP of the finalists.</p><p>FINALISTS<br />Finalists will actually perform their theatrical action in the FINAL EVENING of the competition, to be staged in Trieste on December 15, 2018. During the evening the jury will decide to whom of them the Franco Jesurun Award will go.<br />The finalists will be invited as well to participate in a formative and indepth WORKSHOP, on issues relating to the three creative sectors that are object of the contest, to be held in the days before the final evening.</p><p>The WINNER OF THE FRANCO JESURUN AWARD will be given the opportunity to collaborate with an internationally renowned video artist with whom he will realize a professional video work of the winning theatrical action. The exchange will take place in Bratislava, Slovakia on October 14 – 20, 2018, and will bring together 24 participants from Croatia, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia.</p><p>The aim of the youth exchange is to explore media production, investigate media consumption, analyse media bias, and understand the relationship between media, society and government.</p><p>The media is integral to any well-functioning democracy: it is the bridge between governmental structures and the people. At the heart of The PRESSing Issues (TPI) lies a passion to help young people recognise the importance of media that are unbiased, scrutinizing and ethically produced. For young people to recognise that the viability of democracy’s strength also depends on their thorough and analytical consumption of media.</p><div></div><div>The organisers are an informal group of youth whose passion for media led them to design a week-long programme tackling vital contemporary issues. Among these are media production, consumption, bias and propaganda, and the relationship between media and government.</div><div></div><div>This program aims to equip participants with the tools to discuss this pressing issue. Furthermore, it aims to instil an appreciation for current trends of media consumption, and how these affect our political landscape.</div><div></div><h1>Eligibility</h1><div>Applicants must be 16-18 years of age from Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Malta. A good command of English is essential.
